Hotel Santa Caterina, Amalfi

"I love sitting on the terrace at the Hotel Santa Caterina on the Amalfi coast in sourthern Italy. The scenery is incredible, with ancient buildings carved into the cliffs, and the sea beneath them. On the coast, the people are warm and friendly, the food is great, and driving the coast can be a real adventure. The Vietry pottery is artsy and inexpensive and fun to bring home."  (Cathy)

"My all-time favorite place to relax is in the Florida Keys, from Islamorada south to Key West, for the beautiful azure blue water, the laid back ambience, the fabulous food and the peace and quiet."
  (Jackie)

London
"London is always a great place to visit. Visitor-friendly, with an easy-to-use metro system. Sightseeing pleasures abound. Shopping is terrific, from Harrods to some great flea markets. You can choose from a wide variety of hotels or rent a flat. Dining is good, too--I love the ethnic restaurants and small trendy bistros. Don't miss The Pharmacy, a new disco."  (Rosemary)

"Often overlooked on the tourist route is the city of Milan, which features great art from the Renaissance to the contemporary. For a near-religious experience, I love to take the tram in the very early morning to the Santa Maria de la Gracia, before the hordes of tour buses arrive. I have a cup of tea in the quiet, early morning shadows and am able to go inside and view da Vinci's restored Last Supper in an ambience not unlike its original monastery setting. To experience an active monastery, one can visit the cloisters of St. Ambrosia, just two blocks away.

Another exhilarating experience in Milan is to climb the secret staircase of the Gothic cathedral in the heart of the city and look out over the entire Po Valley. For contemporary art, one should not miss the fine Public Gardens, with exhibitions by Milanese and other Italian collectors."

"My favorite place of all is the Columbus Isle Club Med on San Salvador in the Bahamas. Beautiful beach, beautiful turquoise-blue water and beautiful upscale Polynesian decor. Great for divers! Great for doing nothing."  (Rosemary)

"For 'back to nature' Hawaii in a luxury resort setting, nothing beats the Kapalua Resort in Maui, Hawaii. Some of the best sunsets on the island can be seen from here. Sigh."  (Karen)

"Set in the middle of a volcanic field at the edge of a small cove beach, I think the elegant Mauna Kea Resort on the Kahala coast of Hawaii is one of the most romantic places in the world. The spacious rooms, a lovely collection of South pacific and Hawaiian art, and great restaurants make this a place that will suit anyone's tastes, though it is on the expensive side. From the exercise classes that take place on the lawn at the beach, to the family luau show, to the manta ray which appears occasionally at sunset, I thoroughly enjoyed staying here."  (Clemmer)

New York City
"New York City, the most exciting city in the world! It's a thrill for me to walk from my hotel to the Lincoln Center and stand among the three musical greats: the Adrian Fisher Hall (symphonic performances), the New York State Theater (New York City Opera and Ballet), and the best opera house in the world, the Metropolitan Opera. The Chagall paintings are a direct invitation to enter, and the massive flower arrangements and spectacular entry to the theater are breathtaking--all this before the show has even begun!

I also love to feel the wind from the East River and the Hudson River whipping down the streets between skyscrapers, see the millions of people on Fifth Avenue, and enjoy the exotic restaurants of New York."
  (Clemmer)

"Las Vegas--it's not just for gambling anymore! Beautiful mountains, big sky, and wide open spaces are just minutes from the strip. And on the strip, stay in some of the world's most luxurious hotels for a fraction of the normal cost. Great food, fabulous entertainment, and you might even get rich!"  (Karen)

"Rent a farm house or villa in glorious Tuscany. Spend your days exploring beautiful hill towns or visiting vineyards for a tasting. Glorious food, fabulous art and wonderful music. Visit Florence for art. Villa viewTake a class in Italian, art appreciation or Tuscan cooking. Go in October and help pick grapes or sit and watch the olive trees grow."  (Rosemary)

"I second Rosemary's opinion of Tuscany. One of our most peaceful and memorable family vacations was spent in a villa in the countryside in Tuscany. You can see the beautiful view from our villa in the photograph on the right."  (Cathy)

"I love Provence in France and Florence, Italy for the sights, food, people, history, light, beautiful old buildings and the feeling of history. A two-hour train ride away from Florence is the magical place of Cinque Terre, where you can hike from village to village along 900-year-old paths overlooking the Ligurian Sea."  (Jackie)
